Al Barsha South is experiencing temporary road closures at the entry and exit points connected to Umm Suqeim Street, the RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) confirmed on August 6, 2025. The diversion plan remains active until intersection upgrades are complete.

Motorists entering Al Barsha South from Umm Suqeim Street now must take alternative routes. The RTA advises using Street 31 (next to ENOC Petrol Station), the Dubai Science Complex exit, Al Hadaeq Street, or Hessa Street. These detours aim to ease congestion while construction proceeds.

The closures support major upgrades to the intersection of Umm Suqeim Street and Al Barsha South Street. RTA has built an 800‑metre tunnel with four lanes each way, plus a signalised surface-level intersection near Kings’ School. Works are now over 70 per cent complete and aim to boost weekday traffic flow across the corridor.

Residents in Al Barsha are already seeing benefits from earlier RTA improvements. Street 34 now has four new access points, sidewalks, parking spaces, and a new U‑turn at Al Hadaeq Street. These enhancements cut travel time from five minutes to under one minute for local journeys.

Commuters share mixed reactions. One driver living in the area commented: “It’s disruptive now, but once it’s done, entering and exiting Al Barsha South will be faster and smoother.” The sentiment is echoed widely: short-term inconvenience for long-term gain.

RTA expects the current diversion to stay until the full completion of the tunnel and signal works. Drivers are urged to check navigation apps, obey signage, and avoid peak times where possible for smoother trips.
