Dubai Links Visa Renewals to Unpaid Traffic Fines

Dubai has started testing a new rule that links visa services to traffic fine payments. If there are unpaid fines, it may not be possible to renew, cancel, or modify your visa until the fines are cleared. The system is live at select centers, and wider rollout is expected soon.

Dubai is piloting a system linking visa renewals to traffic fine payments. Residents must settle dues to avoid delays in visa services.

Authorities say this move is meant to promote accountability—not punishment. During any visa-related service, the system checks your traffic record. If fines show up, they must be paid first to proceed.

To make it easier, residents can settle fines at any Smart Police Station, through the Dubai Police app, or online. Dubai Police is also offering zero-interest instalment plans for fines over AED 3,000. A flexible repayment period can be selected, with setup completed digitally or in person at a Smart Police Station.

Many residents have reported that fines sometimes show in one system but not the other. Authorities recommend checking both the Dubai Police and Ministry of Interior portals before starting a visa application.

The new system is still in its trial phase. It does not yet apply everywhere, such as airport immigration counters. Officials say the phased approach is designed to give residents time to adapt.

Dubai has been working to simplify public services, including faster visa processing and better digital integration. The use of Smart Police Stations plays a big role in that shift—allowing residents to resolve issues 24/7, without queues or paperwork. Whether it’s clearing fines or printing documents, a Smart Police Station offers a faster way to stay compliant and avoid delays.

The message from authorities is simple: dues must be cleared, systems should be checked in advance, and digital tools should be used to prevent last-minute problems—especially with visa deadlines approaching.
