E Scooters Ban in Dubai Eases with New RTA Rules

Dubai is making changes again. And this time, it’s about balancing freedom and safety. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has eased its earlier ban on e scooter Dubai, riders in Metro and Tram areas. But the new rules come with conditions.

Foldable e-scooters are now allowed but only if they’re folded, powered off, and within approved size and weight limits. Charging them inside stations? Still strictly banned.

This shift comes after a tough few months. The earlier ban was put in place after multiple fire incidents and an alarming rise in accidents. Reports say 13 people lost their lives in the first five months of 2025 alone and hundreds more were injured.

Authorities acted fast. They’ve taken over 600 scooters and brought in AI patrols to keep an eye on reckless riders. The message was clear that the public safety comes first.

Now, the RTA is trying to find middle ground. For a lot of citizens, an e scooter isn’t just a gadget but it’s part of their daily routine. Whether they’re heading to the Metro or just doing small tasks, it makes life easier. So, instead of a complete ban, officials are going with smarter rules.

But not everyone’s satisfied. Riders are calling for better solutions like proper licensing, training sessions, and maybe even tracking devices to ensure responsible use. They do not say that every rider is careless, and that not everyone should be punished.

Still, this update shows a shift in approach. Dubai isn’t banning e scooter Dubai completely. It’s opening the door to safe, regulated use. The hope? That people can still enjoy the freedom of micro-mobility without putting others at risk.

The plan’s impact on accidents is still uncertain. But for now, the city is clearly saying: ride smart or don’t ride at all.
