Emirates Road Upgrade to Cut Travel Time by 45%

Emirates Road is about to get a major upgrade that will cut travel time by up to 45%, making daily commutes across the northern emirates faster and smoother. The AED 750 million project aims to ease congestion and speed up traffic, especially on the busy Dubai to Sharjah route.

Emirates Road Upgrade to Cut Travel Time by 45%

The project begins in September 2025 and will take two years to complete. A 25 km stretch of Emirates Road will be expanded from three lanes to five in each direction. Once complete, it will accommodate up to 9,000 vehicles per hour — a 65% boost in capacity.

For drivers stuck in daily Dubai to Sharjah traffic, this comes as a major relief. The upgrade will mean quicker access to Sharjah, Ajman, and the rest of the northern emirates. Long delays and bumper-to-bumper stress could soon be a thing of the past.

A major part of the plan includes redeveloping Interchange No. 7 on Emirates Road. The interchange will feature six new bridges spanning 12.6 km, capable of handling over 13,000 vehicles per hour. Additional collector roads will help manage local traffic more efficiently.

Officials say this transformation of Emirates Road supports better connections between Dubai and the northern emirates. It will also boost economic activity by reducing travel time for both residents and businesses.

By 2027, driving from Dubai to Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or even farther into the northern emirates could be faster than ever — saving time, fuel, and daily frustration for thousands. This project isn’t just about roads. It’s about reclaiming time, reducing stress, and enjoying a smoother journey, no matter where you’re headed.
