Fighting in Sweida:

Fighting has increased in the southern city of Sweida. There, Druze armed groups are clashing with Syrian government forces. The Druze are a minority group living in Syria, Lebanon, and Israel. They have been involved in recent violent conflicts in southern Syria.

Israel Defense Minister Israel Katz shared footage of the strikes on social media. He warned that “painful blows have begun.” Katz said Israel aims to protect the Druze community. The Druze are important to Israel’s security near the border.

Since Tuesday night, Israel has launched about 160 strikes across Syria. Most targeted the southern province of Sweida. The airstrikes near the presidential palace in Damascus are unusual. Witnesses said one strike hit close to the palace, showing the attacks have expanded.

This is one of the biggest Israeli attacks on Damascus in recent months. It highlights the ongoing instability in Syria. The country remains divided. Sectarian violence and foreign interventions continue to plague the nation.
