Jaish al-Adl Claims Deadly Attack on Zahedan Judiciary Building

A massive terrorist attack by Jaish al- Adl took place on July 26, at the building that houses the court in Zahedan, which is located in the Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran, which is located in the southeast. The courthouse was attacked early in the morning by armed militants belonging to the militant group Jaish al-Adl. These militants opened fire and threw grenades inside the building, killing citizens in the surrounding area without discrimination.

 There were at least thirteen to twenty-two individuals injured, some of them were reportedly in serious condition. Around five to six civilians who were killed, including a lady and a child who was one year old.

 The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran and local security forces reacted promptly to the attack. This result in the deaths of the three terrorists and the establishment of a secure environment.  The wounded were brought to hospitals by emergency services so that they might receive care. The attack has been characterized as a terrorist act by the Iranian authorities, and an inquiry into the matter is currently currently underway.

 Zahedan has a history of unrest and recurring violence that has been linked to terrorist groups, most notably Jaish al-Ad. Their agenda is for autonomy for the Baluch ethnic minority in the province that is close to the borders of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

 This attack represents a severe escalation of militant violence in Iran’s southeast and highlights ongoing regional security challenges.
