Pakistan has told the United Nations that the Pakistan-Afghanistan border is becoming more dangerous. On July 8, 2025, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said that many terror groups are hiding in Afghanistan and striking Pakistan. These groups include the TTP, Daesh, and others. They are crossing into Pakistan and causing damage. He said there are around 6,000 TTP fighters in Afghanistan, and they have modern weapons that were left after U.S. troops left in 2021.
Pakistan is facing more attacks now. Just a few days ago, a suicide bombing in North Waziristan took 16 soldiers. In another attack in Bajaur, five more people died. These attacks show that terrorism in Pakistan is increasing and is linked to fighters coming from the Afghan side of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Terrorism in Pakistan Linked to Afghan-Based Groups
The ambassador warned that if the Afghan Taliban does not stop these groups, things could get worse. He said a big fight like a Taliban-Pakistan war could start if these attacks were pursued. The Taliban government was urged to take real steps and stop these terror groups. He also asked the world to help by pressuring the Taliban to act and not give freedom to terrorists.

On July 7 and 8, Pakistani and Afghan officials met in Islamabad to discuss border security and trade. Pakistan said they are ready to work with Afghanistan on big projects like the TAPI gas pipeline and regional transport. However, they also emphasized that security must come first.
Many experts now believe that Pakistan’s earlier support for the Taliban has created more problems. Since 2021, attacks inside Pakistan have increased, even though the Taliban said they would not let fighters use Afghan soil. In 2024, more than 2,500 people died due to terrorism in Pakistan, making it the most violent year in nearly a decade.
Trump Afghanistan Deal Blamed for Weapon Flow
The situation is made even more unpleasant by the smuggling and trafficking of weapons across the border. Militants are using advanced weapons, some of which were left behind by the U.S. military. Pakistani officials say this is a result of the Trump-Afghanistan deal in 2020, which allowed U.S. troops to quit but did not take all their weapons back. Now, under President Trump’s current term in 2025, Pakistan wishes the U.S. to help stop these weapons from reaching terrorists.
At the UN, Pakistan said clearly that Afghan land must not be used against Pakistan. They said they want peace and are prepared to work with everyone, but if the situation continues, a Taliban-Pakistan war could start. They also warned that without rapid action, terrorism in Pakistan will keep growing and become a bigger threat to the whole region.
