A former UAE soldier lost his life in a tragic car crash on Oman’s Haima road on Saturday, August 2, while traveling with his family. His son confirmed the fatal car accident to Khaleej Times.
Mohammad Faraj, a 70-year-old former UAE soldier, was driving with his wife and daughter to Salalah when their car collided head-on with another vehicle on the busy highway commonly used by UAE travelers. The family was on a six-day weekend trip and had planned to return the following week.
An Omani citizen who was in the other vehicle also lost his life in the Salalah car accident. Police Aviation transported his body from Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah to Liwa in the North Batinah Governorate.
Mohammad Faraj died at the hospital, while his wife, 69-year-old Fathima Al Hashmi, remains in critical condition at the Omani medical facility. However, her son says she appears to be on the path to recovery. Samiha, Faraj’s 42-year-old daughter, escaped the car crash without any injuries.
In the car behind them, Mohammad Faraj’s other daughter, Alia, was traveling with her husband, Abdullah, and their two-year-old son, Said. They were following in their vehicle, heading to the same holiday destination. Tragically, they witnessed the car crash unfold right in front of them, watching helplessly as their loved ones collided with the oncoming vehicle.
The family members are expecting to receive their father’s body by today evening (Sunday, August 3) or tomorrow (Monday, August 4), after which they will proceed with the burial in Dubai, where the family resides.
Mohammad Faraj earned recognition for his bravery during his 27 years of service in the UAE Armed Forces. He fought cancer for years and beat it after his 1989 diagnosis.
