DUBAI : As the UAE summer vacation begins and children increasingly engage with video games. The Dubai Cybercrime Police, a division of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, has emphasized the need for family supervision.
The Dubai Cybercrime Police are prioritizing protection against the dangers and criminal behavior linked to video games, especially during the UAE summer vacation, as they report a sharp rise in online scams, virtual theft, and inappropriate interactions tied to unsupervised gaming.
Police say the issue worsens during school holidays when children spend long hours online without parental supervision. The Cybercrime Department highlighted that increased criminal activities due to video game usage during the summer break necessitates active family involvement as the first line of defence.
Parents in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are concerned about their children’s involvement in criminal activities due to video game usage, including sharing personal data with fake gamers. These alarming incidents have triggered fresh demands for stronger parental controls, increased awareness efforts, and improved digital education at home.
In response, the Dubai Cybercrime Police partnered with schools and community centers to educate families on safe gaming and online risks, urging parents to monitor games, set screen time limits, and discuss online behavior.
The Dubai Cybercrime Department urges the public to report video game-related cybercrimes via the ‘e-Crime’ platform, 901 hotline, Dubai Police app, or official website.
They are also encouraging parents to explore Dubai Police’s educational online platform, which provides essential resources on cybercrime prevention. Available in both Arabic and English, the platform helps families recognize and avoid online scams while offering practical safety tips.
The platform targets all community members—children, parents, professionals, business owners, and social media users—to promote awareness and digital responsibility across all ages.
