Even though the digital Emirates ID is available through apps like UAEPASS, places like hotels, clinics, and banks often still ask for the original.

Minister Abdulrahman Al Owais confirmed that the digital version is already active for several services. The goal now is to make it accepted across all sectors including telecom, government services, and hospitality, so people can rely fully on their phone and face.

Recent Emirates ID news confirms that the digital version runs on facial recognition and biometric data. It will be making it fast and secure.

Trials have shown promising results, and the digital ID is now live on official platforms like ICP and UAEPASS.

Members of the Federal National Council FNC stressed the need to speed up adoption. Council member Adnan Al Hammadi said residents still face issues at airports, clinics, and hotels without their physical Emirates ID in hand even when they have the digital version.

Still, the new system isn’t meant to make things harder. It’s being rolled out in phases, with privacy protections and secure tech already in place. While the plastic card isn’t going away just yet. It may soon become optional—especially for those already using the digital version.

Soon, a simple face scan and a phone could be enough to access services like banking or hotel check-ins.
