Mecca to Medina distance is being brought to life by Saudi Arabia through a major heritage project that retraces the Prophet’s historic Hijrah journey. To begin with, the immersive journey, called “In the Prophet’s Steps,” lets visitors retrace the path taken during the Prophet Muhammad’s Hijrah.
Spanning over 470 km, the historic Mecca to Medina route is being carefully restored with 41 key landmarks. The aim is clear: the project hopes to open in late 2025 and welcome up to 12,000 visitors daily. Saudi Arabia is using advanced technology to bring the journey to life. Saudi Arabia has made 305 kilometers of the 470-kilometre Hijrah route walkable, allowing visitors to trace the Prophet’s path through restored landscapes and meaningful sites.
The 41 landmarks have been carefully revived, with eight main stations and five interactive hubs sharing powerful moments from the migration. In addition, a new Migration Museum will also help visitors explore the deeper history and spiritual meaning behind the journey.
